When to marry in Spain: the longest outdoor season in Europe

Spain's real advantage over Italy and France is not price. It is that the outdoor season runs from April into November, which is roughly twice the usable window of a northern Italian lake.

The season

Southern Spain supports outdoor weddings from April through to early November. Nowhere else in Europe offers that. It means shoulder-season dates that are genuinely warm rather than merely dry, and it means the supply of good dates is larger — which shows up as availability and as price.

If your date is constrained — a school holiday, a visa, a family commitment that lands in October or April — Spain is very often the answer that keeps the wedding outdoors.

North and south are different countries, weather-wise

Two Spains
RegionCharacterBest window
Andalusia, Costa del SolThe long season, and the extreme summer. Seville in July is genuinely punishing.April–June, then late September–early November
Mallorca, Ibiza, the BalearicsMore moderate than the mainland south, sea-tempered, reliably beautiful.May–June and September–October
Barcelona, Costa Brava, the north-eastMilder, greener, more like southern France. Shorter season, gentler summer.May–June and September

The mistake to avoid is applying an Andalusian calendar to Mallorca or a Balearic one to Seville. Inland southern Spain in high summer is a different proposition from an island with sea breezes, and formalwear makes the difference larger, not smaller.

The month to avoid

July is survivable on the islands and on the coast, and difficult inland. If a summer date is fixed for you, that geography is worth more than any amount of shade and fans.

What the long season does to booking

  • More good dates, less scarcity — With eight usable months, a specific venue is less likely to be gone eighteen months out than the same standard of property on Lake Como.
  • Shoulder pricing genuinely exists — April and late October are real options rather than a gamble, so venues price them accordingly.
  • Ibiza and Mallorca are the exception — Island supply is finite and demand is international. Treat those two like Italy: twelve to eighteen months for a peak weekend.

Common questions

What is the best month to get married in Spain?

May, June, September and October across most of the country. Southern Spain extends that usefully into April and early November, which is the longest outdoor wedding season in Europe.

Is Spain too hot for a summer wedding?

Inland southern Spain in July and August genuinely is — Seville and the Andalusian interior reach temperatures that make formalwear difficult. The Balearics and the coast are far more manageable, so the answer depends more on where in Spain than on the month.

Can we have an outdoor wedding in Spain in October?

Yes, comfortably, particularly in the south and the Balearics, where the season runs into early November. That is Spain's main advantage over the Italian lakes and Provence, where October carries real rain risk.

How far ahead should we book a wedding in Spain?

Nine to twelve months is usually workable on the mainland thanks to the long season. Treat Ibiza and Mallorca differently — island supply is finite and international demand is high, so twelve to eighteen months for a peak weekend.
