When to marry in Italy: Lake Como and Sicily, month by month
Italy’s two wedding regions do not share a calendar. The lakes peak earlier and suffer more from summer crowds; Sicily stays warm well into autumn. Picking the wrong month for the right region is the most common and most expensive timing mistake.
The short answer
- Lake Como — June and September are the most reliable. May is lovely and green with smaller crowds; early June is the sweet spot before summer arrives in earnest.
- Sicily — Mid-September to early October, with May a close second. Temperatures of 22–28°C, venues fully available, and prices between peak and off-peak.
- Both — Avoid August. July and August are Como’s busiest months of the year, with fierce competition for rooms, venues and suppliers, and Sicilian August is hot and crowded.

Sicily's real advantage over the lakes is the length of its season. An October wedding in Taormina is a warm outdoor wedding; an October wedding on Como is a gamble with a wet-weather plan. If your ideal date is autumn, that alone may decide the region.
Booking, and the paperwork clock
- Peak weekends at named villas — Eighteen months. If a specific property is the reason you chose the destination, approach it before you fix the date.
- Shoulder season — Nine to twelve months is usually workable with genuine choice.
- Photographers — Book earliest of any supplier, in both regions.

Sicily. Its season runs meaningfully later: October in Taormina is still a warm outdoor wedding, while October on Como carries real rain risk and some seasonal closures from mid-month.
How far ahead should we book an Italian wedding?
